Canal View Homes became a part of Gateway in 2017 as an amalgamation.

Canal View opened in 1990, by the community Board of Directors' “open door concept Welland”. The original funder was the Federal government. The buildings staff positions are funded by the LHIN. NRH provides rent subsidies for 40 of the units, while 17 units are market rent. The building is owned and operated by Gateway.

There are 40 rent geared to income units through NRH, 17 Market rent units and 5 Commercial units. The building has 30 bachelors, 13 one- bedroom units, 12 two- bedroom units, and 1 three-bedroom unit. All units are accessible with an elevator.

Two full- time employees support 40 of the tenants. External services provide support to tenants (ACT team, CCAC, Community Living, etc.).
